Of all the men on Esquire's list of the 75 Best Dressed Men of All Time, James
Dean is perhaps the most undisputed. For those who have been living on other
planets, Dean — after Rebel Without a Cause, after East of
Eden, after the car crash that took him, too soon, in 1955 — remains a
constant in our lives through his movies and certainly his style, which is now
synonymous with classic American dressing.
Season after season, there's always a hint, if not more, of his
look on the runways. But now, his legacy has become more fashion-present than
ever, particularly in Michael Bastian's spring 2012 collection. The show was inspired by
the actor and featured not
one but two of those Rebel red jackets.
And fine, I'll admit it: I've made an attempt or two to emulate the
man's iconic style. He was the one who made me fall in love with leather jackets because he wore it so so well. Like they say the clothes make the man but in his case I think it was the man that made the clothes look so cool. We can at least try to look like him but his swag is his own. I don't think anyone will ever measure up to that charm..
